Fender Thanksgiving 2011

Well this year I was fortunate enough to enjoy Thanksgiving with my blood relatives and oh-boy it was awesome.  This year's theme was "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves" its a Cher song -which us young ones did not know…at all!  Especially considering when I first hear the song I thought it was gypsies, tramps and queens.  I didn't think that this was very family friendly since we do have a 7 year old attending.  But I was quickly put on the right path (tramps in the old days were hobos…).

Well the thinking started.  We all get really into it and you have to be creative to make sure you aren't under dressed.  My first costume did not come too easily (The McD's Hamblerglar) so I had to go with option number two - The Cookie Monster.  The others that attended are as follows:

Grandma Fender - The Cat Burglar
Grandpa Fender - Robin Hood (he was an actual men in tights - who had to be reminded to sit with his legs closed!!!)
Logan Fender - Black Bart (if you know Casabonita you know Black Barts Cave)
Andrea Fender - A gypsy
Tyler Fender - The Smooth Criminal (yes MJ style)
Harper Fender - The Chickenhawk
Dave Ganagware - The Identity their
Alyce Ganagware - A gypsy
Matt Ganagware - A Tramp
Rick Brochu - A Tramp (with a sign that said "Spaceship in shop.  Need money for parts, Anything helps.  God Bless.")
Cindy Brochu - The jewelry theif
Kyle Brochu - A current day Tramp (one that might be on Colfax)
Noel Brochu - A gypsy

All in all, a very good turn out - and even better picture.

The day started as usual.  Dad and I went to the store to buy some wine - figured 5 bottles should be enough for everyone.  Then the Ganagwares showed up and we were graced with another 4 bottles, then the Brochus arrived and 3 more bottles appeared - thats 12 - with only 13 people attending.  Of which three don't/can't drink and 4-5 who are beer drinkers (who brought their own).  Well, no one thought it was possible but only 2.5 bottles of wine were left by the end of the night…which might have been the catalyst to the day.

There was some intense UNO playing - I cheated and won, and Tyler won the last game fair and square.  Even Franky got out to join the party.  Dinner was great (as it always is).  There was the turkey, meat stuffing, vegetarian stuffing, meat gravy, vegetarian stuffing, mashed potatoes, salad, olives, cranberries, the Brochu's Fat Bomb Beans (always a big hit of the night), and even Kendra's fruit salad made an appearance.  During dinner it is a tradition that everyone says what they are thankful for.  The ones that I remember include:

Me - for US prices using the Australian dollar.
Kyle - for his rockin body
My dad - for Kendras fruit salad
Most others were the traditional friends and family - which is always a good one.

After dinner there was a dance party and a whip cream contest.  The goal of the contest was to get the tallest whip cream tower on your face…it really ended up with a whip cream fight and lots of piles for Jack (the dog) to clean up.  A fiasco if you have ever seen one.  Someone blamed me for the chaos - but I think it is more of the fact that Thanksgiving is a time to enjoy great family and friends and have as much fun as possible.  Mission accomplished…I wish Thanksgiving could come more than once a year.
